Covering retail: A lecture series by Moneycontrol’s Sounak Mitra from November 30 – December 1, 2018

Sounak Mitra, an associate editor at, urged aspiring retail reporters to pay more attention to everything from consumer psychology to supply chain to cover the sector better. He used various case studies to demonstrate how consumer stories often start in unexpected places such a local cigarette shop. His lecture series at the Asian College of Journalism helped students understand the basics of marketing, product placement and pricing practices. Mitra, who writes opinion pieces on India Inc at the news portal owned by Network 18 Group, has previously worked with leading dailies such as Mint, Business Standard, the Telegraph and the Times of India.
