ACJ gets curriculum on weather reporting

The Weather Company, a business unit of IBM, along with RainWise, a meteorological equipment manufacturer will deliver a first of its kind technology based curriculum at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) in Chennai to train students on weather forecasting and reporting.  The course will enable the students to interpret weather data, draw actionable insights and produce engaging content.

Pointing out the initiative’s aim to create a professional awareness on weather reporting,  Sashi Kumar, Chairman, Asian College of Journalism, said the changing role and crucial importance of weather in people’s lives demanded this awareness and the journalistic expertise to cover the weather in all its predictability and unpredictability.

The Personal Weather Station (PWS) provided by RainWise will enable students to have localized weather information. The on-site weather data will allow them to visualize the station data through graphs and dashboards.

The Weather Company allows broadcasters to choose from among the most advanced sets of weather and visualization features to produce a winning weathercast.

‘‘This can easily create and distribute the most accurate, compelling and cost-efficient weathercasts. It will equip news channels to drive better engagement and deliver weather report across devices,’’ said Himanshu Goyal, India Business Leader, The Weather Company.

The Weather Channel app and weather.com gives free weather updates . It is available for Android and iOS devices.
