The Word
The Word - Lab newspaper produced weekly by students

A Prime Location

.

The ACJ is located in the Kasturi Centre, a four-storey, 20,000-square-foot building on Anna Salai, in the heart of Chennai, capital of the State of Tamil Nadu in South India. The College building stands on a historic site — it is here that The Hindu, one of India’s leading newspapers, had its first home in the late-nineteenth century. The ACJ is only a short distance from the offices of major newspapers and television stations, and it is easily reached by public transportation from most parts of the city.

Beyond the College gates lies a great, bustling metropolis. With its diversity, liveliness, educational and developmental resources, and cultural traditions, Chennai provides students of journalism with a vast laboratory and a stimulating environment to work and learn.

The ACJ is making preparations to shift to a new campus, on land given to the college on long lease by the Tamil Nadu governmant, at Taramani in Chennai. The composite facility, under construction, will include classrooms, computer labs, broadcast studios and post production suites, a library, a multi media auditorium, and residential accommodation for students and visiting faculty.

About Chennai

Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is one of India’s great metropolises, combining the old and the new, the modern and the traditional. Greater Chennai’s population was 6.42 million, according to the Census of 2001. It has a rich cultural tradition and is home to highly regarded educational and research institutions as well as to some of the best medical centres in the country. It has major communication and media resources and is one of India’s leading centres for software development and for information and communication technology. Mahabalipuram and Kancheepuram, two ancient historical heritage centres, are within striking distance of Chennai.
